"Such an effort is increasingly important as online theft of our nation's creative works is a growing threat to our culture and economy," the letter said.

But is it? It would seem that music is around everywhere now...with a new interest and enthusiasm. Im surounded by music all the time and I still buy CDs and so does everyone I know. I mean, sure we're trafficing nonpurchased copyrighted material, but tons of this stuff I wouldnt have ever bought at all had I not heard them and loved them through mp3s like I do. The same goes with all my friends.

Why doesnt the department of Justice worry about warez and shit...I mean theyre the ones losing money..the love and enthusiasm of creative arts will be forever circulating anyway, warez is just solid stealing. (not that i dont loeeevvv it ;))

Meh, just goes to show that the biggest mistake of these peer-to-peer things is getting popular. IE: WinMX was not mentioned, guess it's not popular enough yet :)

Music labels have not ruled out suing individual users, and have pushed for the right to flood peer-to-peer networks with bogus files, or disrupt them by other means.

"by other means." ya... if I were to be using any peer-peer software program and got a virus while dling a un-released cd. I'll be sure to asswhoop the President of the company who the artist is signed to.

Look at it this way, mainly everyone who has a computer in North America, probably has an illegal mp3. Now, they are not going to throw all of us in jail, it wouldn't be worth their effort. And to catch us all, it would take many, many law changes and changes in our technology.

We just thank god for that stupid Bill Clinton who signed the internet Privacy act in 1995...:) w00t, thatnks Bill!
